HPU Advances on Planned PsyD Program Committed to Serving Argosy-Hawai‘i Students
Committed to Serving Students in the PsyD Program
Hawai'i Pacific University is moving forward with plans to offer a full, accredited doctorate in psychology (PsyD) program in the wake of the sudden shutdown of Argosy University, whose Hawai'i campus had provided the state’s only PsyD program to date.
HPU faculty members and administrators have met with a substantial number of the former Argosy PsyD students, many of whom expressed hope for a choice in programs. The university will proceed with developing a program to provide the strongest possible solution to Hawai'i’s need for clinical psychologists.
Hawai'i Pacific University’s stable financial outlook and its strong and fully accredited master’s-level program in psychological counseling are among the reasons the university believes that accreditation of an HPU PsyD program will come quickly.
HPU plans to offer former Argosy PsyD students whose spring semester was cut short an opportunity to complete the semester’s classes this summer, at cost. Students may then transfer into the new HPU program to complete their degree.
