Admissions Requirements

GENERAL TRANSFER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students who are transferring from other universities or colleges must have a preferred minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 2.75 for admissions and have submitted official transcripts from each previously attended school. Admission to Hawai'i Pacific University will be based solely on post-secondary record, if 24 or more transferable university-level credits have been completed. Students with fewer than 24 transferable credits must provide high school transcripts for evaluation purposes. These students will be evaluated primarily on their high school records, similar to the evaluation of incoming freshmen. While the cumulative GPA is used to decide admission into HPU, only credits from previous regionally-accredited colleges will transfer.

HPU reviews applications on a rolling basis. It is recommended that transfer students apply by the priority date or at least three months prior to the start of the term in which they are interested unless otherwise noted by academic program.

Program Specific

Transfer students meeting normal HPU admission requirements and with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater in science and mathematics courses at the post-secondary level will be admitted to these majors with regular status. Students with a science and mathematics GPA between 2.0 and 2.5 in post-secondary work will be admitted with a provisional status. Students with a science and mathematics GPA less than 2.0 will not be admitted into these majors. Transfer students with fewer than 24 transferable credits or with few science and mathematics courses must provide secondary school transcripts for admission purposes. These students will be assessed primarily on their secondary school records, similar to the evaluation of incoming freshmen.

Transfer students meeting normal HPU admissions requirements and with a with a 3.0 or higher cumulative overall and 3.0 or higher math/science pre-requisite GPA will be considered for admission into the College of Nursing and Society, while transfer students with fewer than 24 transferable credits must provide (a) secondary school transcript(s) for admission purposes. These students will be assessed primarily on their secondary school records, similar to the evaluation of incoming freshmen.

HOW TO APPLY:

Students who have completed their pre-requisite coursework at a university or college other than HPU must apply to BOTH the nursing program and university for admission. All applicants for the nursing program must first apply for admission to the university via the online application. The student will also need to complete an application for the nursing program via NursingCAS. Only those applicants who are deemed admissible to the university will be considered for admission into the BSN program. Successful applicants will be notified of admission to the nursing program once all applications have been reviewed.

Applications for the BSN program are accepted twice a year, in the fall and spring, for admission the following semester. The deadline for application for fall semester is February 28 and the deadline for application for spring semester is October 15.

Once accepted into HPU, students must fulfill the necessary criteria for progression into Level 1 Nursing courses.
