Scholars Program

The Scholars programs are one-year living learning experiences that bring together small cohorts of academically motivated first-year students in the areas of Marine Science, Nursing, and Pre-Health.

Students who are admitted to the Scholars program are guaranteed housing on the Hawaii Loa campus for their first year and receive an additional $1,000 Scholars award in addition to any merit scholarship they may receive at the time of admission.

Priority consideration for the Scholars program will be given to those who submit their admissions application and Scholars application by December 1, 2017.

  • Plan and carry out a service field trip to benefit a medically underserved community

Nursing Scholars

  • Receive an additional $1,000 Scholars award in addition to any merit scholarship earned

  • Direct entry into the nursing program – a benefit available only to Nursing Scholars. All other first-year students must apply to the nursing program during their sophomore year.

  • Opportunity to take two electives, exclusively available to Nursing Scholars – Transcultural Nursing and Introduction to Nursing

  • Receive an experiential introduction into simulation in your first year

  • Special academic lectures and opportunities to meet as a cohort with guest speakers

  • Work closely with a faculty mentor from day one

  • Peer mentoring from a resident assistant who shares your academic interest
