Shaping Tomorrow Together

LEAVE A LEGACY ROOTED IN ALOHA

At Hawaii Pacific University, students are prepared to meet the world with confidence, compassion, and courage. Through hands-on learning, global perspectives, and the power of aloha, we’ve helped students grow into leaders—in Hawaii and far beyond.

A planned gift is a powerful way to carry that mission forward. Whether you’re honoring someone meaningful, supporting a program close to your heart, or building your legacy, your generosity creates real opportunities for future generations.

Together, we can continue to shape lives, strengthen communities, and ensure that HPU thrives for decades to come.

All individuals who include Hawaii Pacific University in their estate plans are recognized as members of the Malāma Legacy Society.

Recent News

Legislative changes that took effect this year may impact how or when you choose to make a charitable gift.

  • A new deduction for nonitemizers. Claim an above-the-line deduction of up to $1,000 ($2,000 for joint filers) for cash gifts to qualified public charities (excluding donor-advised funds). If you don’t typically itemize your taxes, this is a new opportunity to save.
  • A new cap on deductions for top earners. Itemizers in the 37% tax bracket will have the tax benefit of their deductions capped at 35%.
  • A new minimum giving threshold. Only the amount of total annual giving that surpasses 0.5% of your adjusted gross income qualifies for a deduction (if you itemize). You may want to consider bunching gifts for multiple years into one tax year to exceed both the giving floor and the high standard deduction.

One thing hasn’t changed—charitable giving is still a powerful way to make a difference, create a legacy, and make the most of tax-smart planning.

Make-a-Will Month: A Good Time to Get Started

Do you have a will? According to Trust & Will’s 2026 Estate Planning Report, 56% of adults in the U.S. have no estate planning documents at all. Writing or updating a will is easy to put off. Instead of looking at it as a daunting task, though, it helps to see that a will or living trust is an opportunity to protect your loved ones and carry your values forward.
