HPU’s Men's Basketball is coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017, and Head Coach Jesse Nakanishi is looking to keep the Sharks moving forward in 2026–27.
On this edition of Sharks Weekly, Host Paul Brecht talks with Coach Nakanishi, returning forward Zane Gaul, and newcomer Will Woodward to discuss last season's success, rebuilding a roster with nine new players and the importance of toughness, competitiveness and team chemistry.
The conversation also explores Woodward's unique journey from playing baseball at the University of Washington to basketball at Bellevue College and now HPU, Gaul's growth entering his second season, and the changes within the Sharks' coaching staff.
With HPU picked third in the PacWest preseason poll, the Sharks are preparing for another challenging schedule. The group looks ahead to their October 25 exhibition against the University of Hawai‘i, the Hoops in Hawai‘i Classic and their pursuit of another NCAA postseason appearance.
Sharks Weekly is presented by HPU and airs live every Thursday at 9 a.m. HT on hawaiisportsradio.com.
