Shark's Weekly is back and this week we learn more about HPU Cross Country, how student-athletes train, and about the strong team culture. Head coach Kevin Schwarz was joined by sophomore Drake Hanley and senior Darlene Alvarez to talk about the 2026 season and what it really takes to compete as a collegiate distance runner.
Host Jeffrey Rich engaged a fantastic conversation that covered the physical and mental demands of cross country, Hanley’s summer training of up to 50–60 miles per week, Alvarez’s journey from swimmer to collegiate runner, building consistency, staying healthy, creating team chemistry, and the challenges of competing far from home.
The Sharks also look ahead to the rest of their 2026 schedule, including a trip to Oregon for the Charles Bowles Invitational.
Sharks Weekly is presented by HPU and airs live every Thursday at 9 a.m. HT on hawaiisportsradio.com.
