  • Effective July 8, 2021, the State of Hawai'i will end the COVID test requirement for vaccinated domestic (American) travelers.
  • As travel guidelines continue to evolve around the world, our policies may be adjusted to protect the health and safety of our HPU community, which is our number one priority. Please check back frequently for possible updates. And, of course, check your HPU email for official university announcements.
  • HPU's policy reflects the following revision for students traveling to Hawai'i.

FOR US mainland, territory, or international TRANSPACIFIC STUDENTS:

    (1) If you are fully vaccinated and comply with the State of Hawaii Safe Travels vaccination exception program, you do not need to quarantine and can come to campus.

    (2) If you are unvaccinated but comply with the State of Hawaii Safe Travels testing program, you may come to campus, subject to the restrictions below.

    • If you are living in the dorms (Waterfront Lofts at ATM, Hawaii Loa, or Park Shore Waikiki) and are unvaccinated, you may come to campus immediately, but must take a daily COVID test provided by HPU for a 10-day period.
    • If you are NOT LIVING on campus, you must take a COVID test on the fifth day after arrival and provide the negative result to Dean of Students Office via Med+Proctor before coming on campus.

    (3) If you are unvaccinated and fail to meet the Safe Travels testing program exception, you must quarantine for 10 days off campus at your own expense.

All unvaccinated students, including those receiving exceptions, must also comply with government health and safety mandates and any applicable HPU policies on health screening, wearing of face coverings, social distancing, testing, etc.

Arriving international students who are not yet vaccinated are encouraged to contact the Office of International Student Services (OISS) for further assistance at

Proof of vaccination can be privately submitted directly on Med+Proctor via > Student Services > More > Medproctor. For instructions to create and access your Med+Proctor account, please click here.

Mahalo for your cooperation and ongoing efforts to remain vigilant in our health and safety precautions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
