FAQ: Summer 2019 Services

(During Move to Waterfront Plaza)

Effective dates: May 17, 2019 – August 26, 2019

Q: Is Interlibrary Loan (ILL) available?

A: Yes; ILL will be available to the HPU community throughout the summer 2019 semester. During summer 2019, please pick up and return your ILL items at the Learning Commons at Aloha Tower Marketplace. For more information on ILL, see our ILL webpage.

Q: Are circulation services available?

A: No; beginning May 17, 2019 circulation services will not be available for the duration of the summer semester. Patrons may still search HPU Discovery and access our ample collection of eBooks, articles, and other electronic materials.

Please be sure to return any books that are due on or before May 17, 2019, in order to avoid late and/or lost item fines. After May 17, 2019, any books checked out should be returned to the Learning Commons at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Q: Which library locations are open?

A: The Learning Commons at the Aloha Tower Marketplace will remain open throughout the summer. Please check our Library Hours page for details.

Beginning May 18, 2019, Meader Library (Downtown Campus) will close permanently as we move to our new location at the Waterfront Plaza. Also beginning May 18, 2019, Atherton Library (Hawai‘i Loa Campus) will close temporarily, and will reopen at the beginning of the Fall 2019 semester on August 26, 2019.

Q: Are reference services available?

A: Yes, reference services are available throughout the summer semester. Patrons can schedule one-on-one consultations with a librarian, who can help to develop a search strategy and find information specific to your research needs. Subject specialists are available to meet at the Learning Commons at Aloha Tower Marketplace or at the Hawai‘i Loa Campus. To schedule a consultation, please contact one of our Subject Specialists.

Reference Librarians are also available in person for research and reference assistance at the Learning Commons at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Chat Reference is available online 24/7/365. You may also email questions to reference@hpu.edu.

 Q: Is library instruction available?

A: Yes; librarians are available to lead instruction sessions over the summer semester. If you are a faculty member seeking a library instruction session (or sessions) for your class, please fill out our Library Instruction Request Form and one of our Reference Librarians will reach out to you promptly.

Q: Where can I return my books?

A: After May 17th, please return all items to the Learning Commons at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Once our move is complete, we will update the HPU community with our new address.

Q: Will study rooms be available?

A: Beginning May 18, only the Learning Commons at Aloha Tower will have study rooms. Please click here to book a study room at the Learning Commons.

Q If my class has course reserves, where can I access them?

A: Course reserves will be available at the Learning Commons at Aloha Tower.
