On March 22-23, 2024, the Hawai'i Pacific University Debate Society hosted the 2024 Pan Pacific Debate Championship (PanPac). This year, PanPac consisted of 16 teams from Hawai'i Pacific University, The United States Air Force Academy, Clemson University, Vanderbilt University, Rutgers University Newark, and Seattle University. Debaters from the Irish Times Debate Championship were also guest competitors at PanPac this year.

This year, Clemson University took home the first-place trophy, with Vanderbilt University winning the prestigious “Top Speaker” award and Seattle University winning the “Top Novice Speaker” award, exemplifying their powerful public speaking abilities.

The HPU Debate Society would also like to spotlight Clíodhna McHugh, Eoin Ryan, and Louise Cullen from the Irish Times Debate Championship as guests at the event. These debaters both competed at the Pan Pacific Debate Championship and met with the Advanced Public Speaking class to discuss the importance of public speaking in the modern world.

The HPU Debate Society extends a special mahalo to all who made PanPac 2024 possible. Hawai'i Pacific University's Department of Arts, Communication, Languages, and Media has continually supported the event and the debate program as a whole, enabling the HPU Debate Society to provide these unique public speaking and debating opportunities to students.

The HPU Debate Society works to provide persuasion and public speaking skills to students, empowering them to speak effectively and defend their own beliefs through rigorous practice and competition. The HPU Debate Society currently competes in the British Parliamentary Debate, a popular debate format used by a multitude of universities around the world.
