Shark Bundle

Shark Bundle

Affordable and convenient access to required textbooks and course materials for students is why HPU and Barnes & Noble launched the Shark Bundle rental program. Students will pay $25.75 per credit hour* to get all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes, and electronic book versions before the first day of your term's classes. The average student is estimated to save as much as $300 on textbooks for a semester.

Register for Classes

Upon registering for courses, students will be automatically enrolled into the program. Once you’ve successfully selected your courses, the bookstore will start preparing your order. If you choose to opt out of Shark Bundle, the link will be available in the below FAQs approximately 3 weeks before the start of the semester through the second or third week of the term.

Verify Your Order
Starting about 30 days before the first day of classes, you will receive an email to verify your order and select your fulfillment preference.  You'll want to make your selection at least 2 weeks before the term begins to get your Bundle by the first day of class.  Selection is only needed if you have printed materials included in your Shark Bundle. This email will also list recommended materials that are available for purchase.

FAQs

Shark Bundle is a model that lowers the cost of materials for HPU students and ensures students have access to all of their required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this program, physical books will be conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and digital materials will be delivered directly within Blackboard. Costs will be applied as a course charge per applicable credit hour, whether or not there are required texts for any particular course. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return their physical course materials to the bookstore.

  1. Register for your classes and you are automatically enrolled in the Shark Bundle for all applicable courses. The bookstore will start preparing your course materials.

  2. One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or shipped directly to you).  You must follow the directions to get your printed materials.

  3.  An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships

  4. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Blackboard on the first day of the term.

Students have the option to opt-out of this program within the first 2-3 weeks of the Semester.  The opt out link will go live here about 3 week before the start of the term and will close the second or third week of the term.   Deadline to opt out of the Spring terms was 1/26/24.

Students only enrolled in the Spring 8b term that wish to opt out can do so by submitting a request to SM8094@bncollege.com.  Deadline to submit this request is 3/29/24.  This is the only way to opt out and request should include student email address and student ID number.  This is only available to students who were not enrolled in any Spring 1 or Spring 8a courses.

Ch. 31 or VR&E students will need to get approval from their counselor before opting out.  Please have your case manager email their approval to SM8094@bncollege.com.  Same deadlines apply.

Once you opt out, you can still purchase your course materials from the bookstore either in-store or via the bookstore website at www.hpu.bncollege.com.  When shopping online make sure to select the opt-out term when finding your books.  The opt out term should be on our website around one month prior to the start of the term.

Students who opt-out of the program will be responsible for acquiring their required course materials.  They can do so at the Bookstore's website by choosing their "opt-out" term when finding their books or by stopping by the Bookstore.

The Shark Bundle is not a fee reported to the VA for students using Post 9/11 education benefits.  The VA pays Post 9/11 students a book & supply stipend up to $41.67 per credit, not to exceed $1,000 per year for students eligible for the 100% rate.

The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of finals. Students will receive email reminders about the rental deadline to their email address.

Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period.  Details will be emailed to you or you can stop by the Bookstore.

Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

Students will receive emails from the bookstore to remind them to verify their order. If the student does not opt-out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

Yes, if the student does not opt-out during the opt-out period, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

You may return the book to the bookstore on the same terms and timelines currently in place. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks/codes so that you have what you need.  Please allow about 48 hours for your new schedule to feed into the Bookstore's system.
