Center for Teaching and Learning

Center for Teaching and Learning

The office of Online Programs and Academic Partnerships (OLAP) was established in 2021 to break through silos across online and hybrid programs, connect with and lead educators across the university to advance distance teaching excellence and create a hub where instructors could learn with and from one another through meaningful faculty development opportunities.

OLAP transformed into the Center for Teaching and Learning in 2025 to reflect the evolution of the department to include the entire community of in-person, online, and hybrid educators. We continue popular existing programming, including the New Faculty Orientation each August, the Faculty Summit each January, Tech Talks, interactive teaching practice workshops, and instructional resources, like our asynchronous course on Online Course Design, instructional guides, and Blackboard course templates in Original and Ultra that provide Quality Matters informed navigation features and content for all of our HPU students. We will also add programming and resources as we determine the continuing needs of HPU faculty.

The Center for Teaching and Learning leads and mobilizes the HPU instructional community.

We support instructors and spark collaboration at the intersection of teaching excellence and innovation.

In the spirit of Aloha, Pono, and Kuleana, we also strive to:

Lead: provide vision and instructional leadership to advance 21st century teaching and learning

Connect: bring together instructors from different disciplines and experience levels to learn from and with one another

Collaborate: unite educational leaders from across the university and external partners to design, develop, and deliver exceptional learning.

Inspire: spark innovation through faculty development opportunities such as online resources, webinars, online asynchronous facilitated courses, and faculty summits
