Michelle Alarcon, J.D., MBA, Professor of Management, will present her paper, Tenets of Justice: First Do No Harm, at the International Academy of Business & Public Administration Disciplines conference in Las Vegas, October 23 through 26. Alarcon's paper proposes an ethical reform of the legal profession's code of conduct by investigating a parallel application of the medical profession's fundamental code of ethics known as the Hippocratic Oath, "First Do No Harm." This oath is attributed to Hippocrates, who wrote, "The physician must... have two special objects in view with regard to disease, namely, to do good or to do no harm." The application of this tenet to the legal profession will be unprecedented and one that can set guidance on higher standards of ethics that will then translate to improving businesses and human society at large.
