HPU Dean of the School of Nursing Edna Magpantay-Monroe, Ed.D., APRN, CMDCP, recently attended the Air Force Influencer Accession Tour from March 9-12, 2026, hosted at Nellis and Creech Air Force bases. The common goal for the tour was to inspire students to pursue excellence in their academic and personal lives and become active and engaged citizens.

There were about 32 attendees at the Tour, from deans, faculty, admission officers, student service representation – from healthcare and engineering. The participants received mission briefings with the dedicated Air Force healthcare and engineering professionals,  participated in hands on experience designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the conference. Attendees discussed and had opportunities to ask questions about application requirements, loan deferment options, scholarship programs and ways to serve full time, part-time and out of uniform.

Dean Magpantay-Monroe shared the highlights of her tour.

The first day was a tour of the Thunderbird Museum and getting to know the participants. The health care participants were from nursing, physician assistant, pharmacy, social work, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Day 2 was about the briefing of the key personnel about their “whys” of joining the Air Force.

Day 3 was a briefing by a panel of health professionals (e.g. nurse, physician, psychologist, medical interns, pathologist) on the hands-on experience with simulation.

Dean Magpantay-Monroe met an HPU alumna from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) class of 2006 – Lt. Col. Tiffani MacMann, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – during the briefing event at Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center AFB Nellis. The short conversation was on reminiscing her time at HPU.

“It was truly an honor to be selected to attend this training and be given a certificate as an Honorary Recruiter serving as an Ambassador to the US Air Force and US Space Force with the community,” said Dean Magpantay-Monroe. “The receipt of a military challenge coin was a commemoration of this special training. We often have BSN graduates interested in being commissioned as a new RN in the Air Force or other military branches. Dr. Hazel Downing and Dr. Leeah Javier (HPU nursing faculty members) have attended this training in Texas or Ohio in previous years. We all can provide better information to our students.”
