Congratulations to the following student winners of the 2026 HPU Short Script Contest!

Best Original Script: 520, written by Emily Tasi-Tuulaupua

"An easy choice for Best Original, 520’s patient buildup to catharsis was well executed with a smart delivery of a deep and important message in such a short scene. Well done!"

Best Adapted Script: Time Machine, written by Violet Moravec

"Also, a shoe in for Best Adapted Script. Its offbeat, ironic humor is reminiscent of Seinfeld. Its choice of source material was smart, but this adaptation stood out as its own unique work."

Comments are from the judges, who are former multiple winners of the HPU Short Script Contest. This year’s winners were selected from over 20 submissions presented to the judges anonymously. The contest is open to all HPU students. The contest awards ($808 in scholarships) are supported by the Mark David Bauer Fund. For additional information on the Short Script Contest, contact Professor of English Mark Tjarks, Ph.D., at mtjarks@hpu.edu or (808) 566-2445.
