Student Government Association

The Hawai'i Pacific University Student Government Association (SGA) is your student governing body. Every registered HPU student taking at least one credit is a constituent of the SGA. All students are encouraged to attend weekly meetings of the Student Senate and to voice their comments and concerns to the student senators.


SGA Business Etiquette Dinner - Spring 2019 

Student Government Association (SGA) presents their annual Business Etiquette Dinner featuring “Hawaii’s Presentation Coach” and renowned etiquette speaker, Pam Chambers. At this event, you will learn how to place a napkin, what fork to use, when to bring up business, and appropriate networking advice while you enjoy a delicious four-course dinner (valued at $40) at Cafe Julia (1040 Richards St., Honolulu, HI 96813). The event will take place on Tuesday, March 12th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m.) The cost of the event is $5 per HPU student (no guests permitted). Seating is limited and reservations are required. Please dress in business casual attire. Click on this link to register by March 10th.

SGA General Elections - Spring 2019

Do you want to help improve the HPU student experience?  Are you making the most out of your college experience so far? Do you have ideas that will push HPU into the future? Opportunity is knocking at your door! Your Student Government Association is calling upon motivated individuals to be the voices for the HPU student community. There are many opportunities for involvement!

The Student Government Association (SGA) of Hawai'i Pacific University is the student governing body that represents all students. The Student Body President and Vice President positions are part of the executive branch of SGA and serves as the chief representative and students’ advocate. The Student Senate serves as the legislative and oversight branch of SGA and seeks to promote the general welfare of the student body.

Timeline and Important Dates for Election

When running for a position in HPU SGA, please keep these important dates in mind:

  • Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 – Election application available to students through the above link
  • Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 – Election application (and accompanying documents) must be submitted by 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, March 4th - Friday, March 22nd, 2019 – Candidate Campaigning Period
    • All flyers and campaign posters must be approved prior to posting. Candidates may email soft copies to Nicole Wechselberger, HPU SGA Advisor, at for approval.

    • All flyers, posters, and other campaign materials must be removed by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22nd, 2019.

  • Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 - Candidate Meet and Greet Opportunity at Etiquette Dinner from 5:30-8:00 p.m. @ Cafe Julia
  • Monday, March 18th, 2019  – Candidate Meet and Greet on Fort Street Mall, 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 19th, 2019  – Candidate Meet and Greet on the front lanai of Hawai’i Loa Campus, 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 - Candidate Meet and Greet at Aloha Tower Marketplace, 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m.
    • A debate is tentatively scheduled to be combined with this event. Additional information will be provided by Monday, March 4th, 2019.
  • Monday, March 25th – Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 – General Elections
    • Elections will be conducted electronically via HPU Pipeline.

  • Friday, March 29th, 2019 – Election results announced.
  • Friday, April 5th, 2019 – SGA Induction Ceremony (During Session)
  • Friday, April 12th, 2019 – Light Up The Night (details TBA)

Student Senate meetings are scheduled weekly during the fall and spring semesters. They are held every Friday from 3-5pm in Multipurpose Room 1 in the ATM Learning Commons. Feel free to stop by and visit or to voice a concern.
