Student Government Association

The Hawai'i Pacific University Student Government Association (SGA) is your student governing body. Every registered HPU student taking at least one credit is a constituent of the SGA. All students are encouraged to attend weekly meetings of the Student Senate and to voice their comments and concerns to the student senators.

 

General Elections 2021

Do you want to help improve the HPU student experience?  Are you making the most out of your college experience so far? Do you have ideas that will push HPU into the future? Opportunity is knocking at your door! Your Student Government Association is calling upon motivated individuals to be the voices for the HPU student community. There are many opportunities for involvement!

 The Student Government Association (SGA) of Hawai'i Pacific University is the student governing body that represents all students. The Student Body President is part of the executive branch of SGA and serves as the chief representative and students’ advocate. The Student Senate serves as the legislative and oversight branch of SGA and seeks to promote the general welfare of the student body.

 Candidate applications for all 2021-2022 SGA Executive and Legislative positions are now open! Click here to access the online General Election Application. In order for applications to be successfully submitted, you must upload a completed Election Petition, see link below. Timeline:

When running for a position in SGA, please keep these important dates in mind:

  • Friday, January 29th, 2021 – Election application available to students.
  • Friday, February 12th, 2021 – General Election Application (and accompanying documents) must be submitted by 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, February 15th - Tuesday, March 16th – Candidate Campaigning Period
    • All promotional materials (i.e. social media graphics, websites, etc.) must be approved prior to posting. Candidates may contact Nicole Wechselberger, HPU SGA Advisor, at leadership@hpu.edu for approval.
    • All active campaigning must end by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16th.
  • Wednesday, March 17th - Wednesday, March 24th  – General elections conducted electronically via MyHPU Portal.
  • Thursday, March 25th – Election results announced.
  • Friday, April 2 - Transitional meeting (virtual). More details will be communicated to you
  • Friday, April 16th – Light Up The Night (details TBA)

Student Senate meetings are scheduled weekly during the fall and spring semesters. They are held every Friday from 3-5pm. Feel free to attend and see how your SGA is working for YOU!
