Journey to Peace Hawaiʻi is a no-cost, graduate-level seminar series where ambassadors, military leaders, and scholars review the hard lessons of war and peace in the Pacific, in a real university classroom, offered free to the public. Open for all who want to experience what a graduate seminar at HPU is like, and understand how we got here and how we may work towards a better future.
The seminar recognizes Raymond Aka of Wailuku, Maui, who bridged the languages of the 1946 drafting of Japan's constitution, and Col. Harry Fukuhara, Nisei soldiers of the U.S. Army’s Military Intelligence Service who served through the U.S. occupation of Japan. Their service supported Japan’s postwar reconstruction, its democratic reforms, and the enduring U.S.-Japan alliance. Members of the Fukuhara family will attend representing both households.
Sponsored in part by Hawaiʻi Pacific University, offering bachelor and master's degrees in Diplomacy and Global Security, Cybersecurity, Public Administration and more at hpu.eu/grad
