Students are invited to participate in the Denim Day campaign. This campaign began 20 years ago as an act of protest following a court ruling in Italy which overturned a rape conviction because the survivor was wearing "tight jeans". The justices assumed that the survivor must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, implying consent. The day after the ruling, women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Since that time, Peace Over Violence has invited people worldwide to wear jeans on this day as a symbol of protest against erroneous and problematic attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault, and rape. Join us in protesting the misconceptions present in our society about sexual violence by wearing jeans on Wednesday, April 29! www.peaceoverviolence.org #SAAM
