HPU to Host Candidate Forum for Lieutenant Governor Election

February 28, 2018

05:30 PM - 08:00 PM

ATM MPR 3

Join Hawaii Pacific University’s Department of Communication for a candidate forum for the Hawaii Lieutenant Governor race. The campaigns of Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., Senator Will Espero, Senator Josh Green, Kim Coco Iwamoto, Marissa Kearns, Jeremy Low, and Senator Jill Tokuda, have indicated their candidates will attend. The forum will feature opening and closing statements from each candidate with a question and answer period in between. Questions will be asked by the moderator. Each candidate will answer the same question in a rotating order.

A candidate forum for the Congressional District 1 race will be held on March 19th at 5:30 p.m. at ATM-MPR 3. Senator Donna Kim, Representative Kaniela Ing and former Hawaii Attorney General, now Lieutenant Governor, Doug Chin have stated they plan to attend the CD 1 forum.

“We envision the forums as a way for the candidates to help introduce themselves to the state’s voters and to provide us with as much information as possible in making our choices,” stated HPU Chair and Professor of Communication John Hart.

Hart noted the department hopes to follow the forums with a more traditional debate event closer to the elections.
