For centuries, writers have imagined the end of human civilization—whether through war, plague, alien invasion, or divine intervention. In this session, we’ll look at the long history of literary apocalypses—from Bible stories up to Hollywood movies—and try to understand what purpose they serve. Do they reflect or anxieties and fears? Do they help us avoid bad decisions? Do they make us better or worse at dealing with real-life adversity and cataclysm?
