About
The Harbor Lofts are located on the downtown Honolulu waterfront, Piers 8 and 9, and border the iconic Aloha Tower that was built in 1926 to welcome passenger ship arrivals. The Harbor Lofts are part of the Aloha Tower Marketplace, a vibrant, mixed-use residential and commercial center designed to serve the Hawai'i community and HPU students.
The 360-bed residential community is located on the second and third floor of the Aloha Tower
The 3rd Floor Residences are comprised on double-, triple- and quad-occupancy bedrooms with a central lounge/study area and shared bathroom/shower facilities in each building.
On the ground floor, students have access to HPU facilities including the Learning Commons, the eSports Arena, Pier Nine by Sam Choy, multi-purpose rooms, HPU offices such as the Welcome Center, Student Activities, First-Year Experience, Housing and Residence Life, Student Government Association, and Campus Activities Board; and various retail and dining options. Living at the Harbor Lofts also means easy access to many amenities, activities, and public transportation in downtown Honolulu.
All residents of the Harbor Lofts are required to purchase a meal plan. Meals are served in Pier Nine by Sam Choy, the Waterfront Lofts on-campus dining facility.

Video tour of Studio Double Accessibility Dorm: Room Tour
Think of a loft unit as a two-story mini apartment. You’ll have bedrooms on both floors, a shared hangout space, a small kitchenette, and your own bathroom shared with all students living in the loft unit. The resident(s) you share your bedroom with will be your roommate(s) and the residents in the other bedroom inside the unit will be your loftmates.
- Upstairs Bedroom (A): One bedroom that can house 2 or 4 students, depending on the setup.
- Downstairs Bedroom (B): Another bedroom that can also house 2 or 4 students.
- Shared living space: A common area between the bedrooms where roommates can hang out, study, watch TV, or just escape your bedroom.
- Kitchenette: A small kitchen counter area with a full-size refrigerator, small sink, and limited cabinet/storage space. Think snacks, drinks, and basic food storage rather than a full kitchen (Don't worry, that's why you have a meal plan!)
- Bathroom: A private shared bathroom with a toilet, shower room, and sink/cabinet space.
Basically: it’s a little more “apartment-style” than a traditional dorm room. You get two levels, a place to hang out, a kitchenette, and a shared bathroom—so you’re not living entirely out of one bedroom. You can think “Your dorm, but make it a two-story apartment with roomies and loft mates.”
Each resident is provided a:
- Twin XL Mattress
- Bed Frame
- Desk
- Desk Chair
- Wardrobe
Each loft unit is provided with a:
- Full- size Fridge
- Kitchenette area with sink and cabinet space
- Common area furniture (ex: ottoman, armless lounge chair, coffee table, lamp)
- En-suite bathroom with a shower and toilet
Approved Appliances
*These are NOT provided by HPU; Residents may purchase for their unit*
- Single serve coffee maker (k-cups or pods)
- Blender
- Rice Cooker
- NuWave Pro Infared Oven
- Microwave (between 1,000 - 2,000 watts) *some units may have a microwave in them already*
Think of a studio unit as one shared, open-concept living space where your bedroom, study space, and hangout space are all in the same room. Depending on the setup, you’ll share the space with 1, 2, or 3 OTHER students, so it’s definitely a close-knit living space!
- Sleeping + living space: One open room shared by 2 (double), 3(triple), or 4(quad) students. Your bed, desk, and personal space are all part of the same room.
- Kitchen Space: No kitchenette in this setup, but you’ll have a mini fridge for drinks, snacks, leftovers, and all your late-night essentials. (Don't worry, that's why you have a meal plan!)
- Hangout/study space: Since everything is in one room, you’ll have a shared space to hang out, study, or decompress with your roommate(s).
- Bathroom: A shared bathroom with a toilet, shower, and sink space.
Basically: it’s the classic dorm experience, just with a close-knit living dynamic. Think “one room, tighter living quarters, in-unit bathroom, and a mini fridge for the essentials.” You can think “Your classic dorm room—but you and your roomie(s) all live in the same room."
Each resident is provided a:
- Twin XL Mattress
- Bed Frame
- Desk
- Desk Chair
- Wardrobe OR built in closet space
Each studio unit is provided with a:
- Mini Fridge
- In-unit bathroom with a shower and toilet
Approved Appliances
*These are NOT provided by HPU; Residents may purchase for their unit*
- Single serve coffee maker (k-cups or pods)
- Microwave (between 1,000 - 2,000 watts) *some units may have a microwave in them already*
Think of 3rd Floor Residential Spaces as community-style living designed for students who want more opportunities to connect, study, and hang out outside of their bedroom. Instead of having a bathroom or kitchen inside your unit, the 3rd floor has shared spaces that are built for the whole community.
*Only 3rd floor residents will have access to the 3rd floor amenities*
- Bedroom space: Your bedroom is your personal space to sleep, study, and make your own. You’ll have plenty of shared community space just outside your bedroom when you want a change of scenery.
- Communal bathrooms: Bathrooms are located outside of the bedroom units and are shared by the 3rd floor community. They include showers and toilets and are separated by gender. These are also cleaned daily by our HPU cleaning crew!
- Communal kitchen: The kitchen is located outside of the bedroom units and includes shared refrigerator, cabinet, and sink space. It’s a great spot to grab a beverage, pop some popcorm, or run into your neighbors.
- Hangout + study spaces: This is where the 3rd floor residential space really stands out. You’ll have tons of space to hang out, study, collaborate, and meet people, with lounge furniture, gathering areas, study spaces, whiteboards, and a TV.
- Community vibe: With so many shared spaces, it’s easy to step outside your bedroom and find people to study with, watch a show, work on a project, or just hang out.
Basically: it’s less “traditional dorm” and more “your own bedroom + an entire floor to live, study, and hang out.” Your bedroom is your personal space to sleep, relax, and make your own, while just outside your door you’ll find spaces to study, prep snacks, hang out, and connect with the 3rd floor community. You can think "Your room is your space. The whole floor is your community."
Each resident is provided a:
- Twin XL Mattress
- Bed Frame
- Desk
- Desk Chair
- Wardrobe
Approved Appliances
- No cooking appliances of any kind are allowed in the 3rd Floor residences bedrooms. However, there is a common kitchenette with a microwave and fridge that everyone on the floor can use for simple snack prep only.
