Military Community Awards

Hawai‘i Pacific University and the College of Extended and Interdisciplinary Education (CEIE) support the military community by offering top tier programs while providing financial and student assistance.

Financial awards will be available to servicemembers as well as military family members and retirees.  Please see the information below for frequently asked questions specific to your military affiliation. Q: Who is eligible for the HPU Servicemember Tuition Waiver?

A: All service members are eligible for the HPU Servicemember Tuition Waiver, where service members are defined as Active duty, Reservist (excluding inactive reservist), and National Guard members.

Q: What is the HPU Servicemember Tuition Waiver?

A: The HPU Servicemember Tuition Waiver provides service members with a $560 per credit hour award that can be applied for all undergraduate courses taken on the military bases and online.

Q: Do I need to apply for the HPU Servicemember Tuition Waiver, and if so, how do I apply?

A: If you are currently designated as an Active Duty, Reservist or National Guard servicemember with HPU, you will not need to apply for the award unless your Military Identification Card expires or your military status changes at some point during your period of studies. If this should occur, you must immediately submit a Military Award Application and updated Military Verification Form with your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator.

Q: Will I receive notification that I’ve been awarded the HPU Servicemember Tuition Waiver?

A: If you are currently designated as an Active Duty, Reservist or National Guard servicemember, the tuition waiver will automatically be applied to your account, and notification will not be provided.

Q: What will a service member see on his or her bill?

A: Service members, taking a  1-credit course as an example, will see the following charges based on their major degree:

Servicemember Waiver:

Q: What happens if my bill does not show the award?

A: Verify with your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator that you are designated as a current servicemember with HPU. Once your designation is confirmed, your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator will put in a formal request for the award to be applied to your student account.

Q: How do I verify my status as a servicemember?

A: Verify with your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator that you are designated as a current servicemember with HPU. If your servicemember designation is not accurately reflected on your student account, you will complete a Military Affiliation Verification Form with your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator.

Q: If my military status changes during my studies, are there any other HPU Military Awards available to me?

A: Yes, you can apply for the HPU Military Award by completing a Military Award Application and updated Military Verification Form with your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator. Eligibility requirements apply.

Q: Who is eligible for the HPU Military Award?

A: Military family members and retirees (with military IDs) who do not receive any other significant funding are eligible for the HPU Military Award. To remain eligible for the award, students must maintain a cumulative HPU GPA of 2.5.

Q: What is the HPU Military Award?

A: The HPU Military Award provides military family members and retirees with a $520 per credit hour award that can be applied to all undergraduate courses taken on the military bases and online (Some restrictions apply, see an advisor for details).

Q: Do I need to apply for the HPU Military Award or will I just receive it if I’m a military family member or retiree with an active military ID?

A: Yes, you need to submit a Military Award Application along with a Military Affiliation Verification Form to your Academic Advisor or Base Coordinator. You should submit documents at least two weeks prior to each fall semester (https://www.hpu.edu/registrar/academic-calendar.html).
