The last three years, the State of Hawaii, in partnership with community organizations, has put on the Hawaii Annual Code Challenge (HACC) to bring together teams to organize, collaborate, and develop ways to use technology and improve processes to help government and the community. Recognized in 2018 with the State IT Innovation of the Year award by StateScoop, the HACC is a model program for others across the nation. The HACC differs significantly from most hackathons, which typically run over a day or weekend, by being held over multiple weeks, providing time for teams to more fully develop solutions, attend interim workshops on technical issues as well as pitch presentation training, and gather more background to develop the best solution possible. Not only do participants have the opportunity to gain real world experience, they also learn about how government functions and ways government and community intersect. This year, the HACC will be hosted by the State of Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University in conjunction with community partners.

We would like for your organization to consider being a sponsor of the 2019 HACC. As in past years, the HACC will be solely funded through sponsorships. Your contribution will allow HACC participants to continue to learn, innovate, and work together to address ways the public and government agencies can work together to foster community resilience while building on the foundation set forth in the Aloha+ Challenge’s sustainability goals.

The HACC will kick-off on October 19, 2019 and submissions will be presented and judged on November 16, 2019. The interim workshops will be held on October 26 and November 2 to provide additional training and work time for teams. Sponsorships provide the funding for event coordination, facilities for kick-off and demo day, food, t-shirts, and prizes for the teams that win the challenges. The goal is to raise approximately $50,000. All sponsorship funds will be received and handled by Hawaii Pacific University, a 501(c)3 organization, making all contributions 100% tax deductible.

Thank you for considering being a sponsor for the 2019 HACC. Please see the attached for sponsorship details. Contact Caroline Julian-Freitas at caroline.julian-freitas@hawaii.gov or Brooke Carroll at bcarroll@hpu.edu with questions.
