Today’s world is extremely complex and experiencing tremendous social, economic, political and climate change. Organizations need leaders who can understand the complexity of organizational systems from small businesses to international entities. At all levels, they need agents of change who can master this rapidly changing world, new technologies, workforce needs and government regulations. Graduates of the MAODC program can find many options for rewarding careers across a wide array of industries and organizations.

Organization development involves an ongoing process of implementing effective organizational change interventions. OD is a field of applied science focused on understanding and managing organizational change and is interdisciplinary in nature and draws on social psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, theories of motivation, learning, and personality. Along with the behavioral sciences, the practice of OD has incorporated new and emerging fields of study including systems thinking and organizational learning, into a much more multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach to change and organizational effectiveness.

Organization Development and Change processes are planned organization-wide, designed to increase organization effectiveness and health, through planned interventions in the organization's "processes,” using behavioral and systems science knowledge focusing on developing organization capability through alignment of strategy, structure, processes, people, rewards and metrics. Leading change is often conducted through organization, leadership, professional and talent development as well as organizational effectiveness activities. Opportunities for organization development and change professionals include business, education, not-for-profit, government, international NGOs, politics and consulting.

The Master of Arts in Organization Development and Change (MAODC) program at Hawaii‘i Pacific University prepares you to be a global problem solver. Our graduates facilitate organizational and cultural change around the world and often return to guide and mentor. Students explore concepts from management, sociology, anthropology, organizational development, psychology of technology, and economics. They design innovations and work with programs in actual organizations.

A diverse faculty and student cohort bring an international perspective to the curriculum. When designing and implementing positive organizational change, one important consideration is recognizing cultural diversity. The MAODC program takes a global view. HPU features a multicultural learning environment that takes full advantage of Honolulu’s status as an international business community.

International Applicants: the minimum English Proficiency Requirements for the MAODC program is a TOEFL (IBT) overall score of 80 with a writing Score of 25, or IELTS overall score of 6.0 with a Writing Score of 6.5.  See here for additional requirements for International students.

MAODC Program Chair

Rossi

Dr. Ken Rossi is an Assistant Professor of Organization Development and Change at Hawaii Pacific University where he is also the faculty chair for the Masters of Organization Development and Change (MAODC) program.

Before joining HPU Dr. Rossi served as NASA’s Organization and Employee Development Training Manager working out of Ames Research center in Mountainview, California.

Dr. Rossi’s research is in the area of leadership and leadership development and is currently conducting research on the impact of simulations on leadership and organizational behavior. Prior to NASA, Dr. Rossi ran a career transition program, satellite campus operation, and served in the US Army as a leader, trainer and Organizational Effectiveness consultant and educator.

Dr. Rossi holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a master’s degree in Human Resources Management and Organization Development, and a master’s degree in Counseling from Chapman University, a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chaminade University and is a graduate of the US Army Organizational Effectiveness Staff Officer’s School at Fort Ord, California and is a Senior Registered OD Professional.

Dr. Rossi has worked extensively throughout the United States and the Pacific including Samoa, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Panama, and other areas of South and Central America.

"Teaching in the MAODC program at HPU is a privilege on many levels," shares Rossi.  First, the diversity of our student body adds an eclectic mix of perspectives and experiences to our class discussions.  In my opinion, this dynamic is not duplicated anywhere else in the Pacific Rim.  Second, the faculty in the MAODC program also come from diverse backgrounds. Our faculty present our curriculum from both the academic and practitioner-oriented viewpoints which allows students to gain the best from both worlds.

Finally, our focus on project-based learning gives our students opportunities to work with local businesses and solve real issues facing those organizations.  Our students practice what they will be doing in the consulting field.  Rossi teaches in both the MAODC and MBA programs at Hawaii Pacific University.
