HONOLULU – Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) is proud to announce that its Spring 2019 Commencement exercises will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena.

Among the 450+ students who will be receiving their diplomas are five Maryknoll high school students who will be receiving their Associate in Arts degrees. One of the Maryknoll students, Angel Tanjutco, who plans on completing her bachelor’s degree in Biology at HPU and pursuing a career in the medical field believes her time on campus was invaluable. “Taking classes on HPU's campus was a big step from high school. I was able to make friends easily and still have that one-and-one connection with my professor. I have met some of the kindest, most well-rounded people here.”

“Partnerships with local high schools like Maryknoll helps us fulfill our commitment to local students and allows us to help bridge the gap between high school and college, making higher education more accessible for our keiki,” said John Gotanda, president of HPU. Echoing President Gotanda’s commitment is Perry Martin, president of Maryknoll School, “our students participating in this program have an amazing opportunity get ahead in their academic journeys at HPU, all while being able to thrive as members of our Maryknoll School community. We’re grateful for this opportunity and look forward to further growing this important partnership between our two schools.”

During the ceremony, graduating students will hear from Kirk Caldwell, 14th Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu. Mayor Caldwell’s commitment to the community and higher education closely aligns with HPU’s mission of delivering an exemplary education to students seeking the opportunity to live, work and learn as members of a thriving downtown business community.

Guests may enter with their admission tickets starting at 4:00 p.m. for the 5:00 p.m. ceremony. There are 10 seating tickets per graduating student, and everyone, including children, will need a ticket for entry into the ceremony. Following the graduate recessional will be a meet-and-greet event for graduates and guests adjacent to the tower. Additional information may be found on the commencement website.
