Cinematography Workshop Students Create Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Film

Multimedia Cinematic Production students and MDA leaders

Multimedia Cinematic Production students, Feena Bonoan, Brianna Vides, Samantha Baker, and Stephen Boler, in the Cinematography Workshop class wrote, produced and directed a 10-minute short film for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), as part of the 20th Anniversary MDA Soiree held at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Saturday, April 6. The students and cinematography professor Pete Britos, Ph.D., volunteered their time and expertise by filming six interviews and editing those interviews into 10-minute and 20-minute short films for the MDA chapter of Hawaii.

Communication professor Lisa Chuang, Ph.D., and her husband ethnomusicologist Ben Fairfield contributed original musical scores. MDA Hawaii Executive Director Jade Guess (BA Communication ‘04) asked the students in February if they could take on the project and the students agreed and were able to film the project across the island and on location at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. The students were recognized and thanked at the Royal Hawaiian Soiree after the screening.
