Seven CHS students, Abdulaziz Alrubaysh, Giselle Agsalude, Genie Reutirez, Juvien Aquino, Jasmine Sagaysay, Malaya Caligtan and Shella Ganoy, representing the Nursing, Public Health and Social Work programs traveled to Japan and Vietnam from Dec. 19 to Jan. 5, participating in the inaugural HPU Inter-professional Education (IPE) Cultural Exchange Trip. CHS faculty Patricia Burrell, Ph.D., and Paul Tran led the trip.

The HPU group engaged with faculty and students from Osaka Prefecture University in Japan and Da Nang University and Hue University in Vietnam, learning through lectures and presentations, social service visits, sightseeing and spending time with host families. Throughout their travels, the HPU students spread aloha and shared the culture of Hawai‘i, dancing and teaching hula, playing the ukulele and singing.

Through the HPU IPE Cultural Exchange Trip, the HPU CHS students had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of different beliefs and viewpoints to solve social issues in the world. Watch the video of their cultural exchange trip here.
