HPU Student Veterans Association (SVA) Represented at National Conference

Student veterans Luis Salazar (bachelor’s in business), Sasha Georgiades (master’s in social work), Uyen Tran (master’s in social work) and Cynthia Meraz (bachelor’s in psychology) with Assistant Director, Military/Veterans Center Tom Flores attended the 2019 Student Veterans of America National Conference (Natcon) in Orlando, Florida, from Jan. 3 through 5.

The 2019 conference included more than 2,000 attendees and corporate representatives including Google, Amazon, Accenture and Raytheon, providing students the exposure to potential post-graduation employers. As a feature of Natcon, two Medal of Honor recipients, Rep. Mark Takano, chairman of Veteran Affairs, and Student Veterans of America President Jared Lyon delivered speeches. Attending the conference was also a great opportunity for students to learn how to maintain and grow their SVA chapters through networking with other school chapters and finding out what best practices are working.

“This was the first time ever SVA from HPU was able to attend [Natcon] collectively, and we hope to carry on this new tradition,” Meraz said.

HPU SVA representatives invite all in the HPU community to learn more about their experiences, welcoming conversation and collaboration. The HPU Military Veterans Center, 1164 Bishop Suite 912, is staffed Monday through Friday, except for university administrative holidays, 8 am-5 pm.
