Pier Nine by Sam Choy Celebrates Public Grand Opening

Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) officially welcomed the public to its student dining facility, Pier Nine by Sam Choy today.  HPU is the first university in the state of Hawai‘i to highlight Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine, as popularized by Chef Choy and infuse it into the design of both the menu and dining space.

“HPU is actively changing the student and general public experience in our downtown community, and I am honored to be a part of a project for Honolulu’s next generation of leaders as well as to participate in the revitalization of the historic Aloha Tower Marketplace,” said Chef Sam Choy. “Food brings people together, and this prime location will welcome students, our island community and visitors from around the world to experience the comforts of Pacific-inspired cuisine in an exquisite local environment.”

“The HPU ‘ohana warmly welcomes Chef Choy and his culinary mastery to further provide unique, landmark services for our community,” said John Gotanda, President of HPU. “This partnership is an exciting development for the university that simultaneously offers our community an outlet to appreciate local cuisine and culture.”

The 142-seat restaurant overlooking Honolulu Harbor is modeled after an open marketplace, allowing for the freshest and most customized experience. Anchored by Aramark, a leader in campus dining, guests will be able to create their own salad or panini sandwich for a lighter meal or delight themselves with a featured special meal from Chef Choy, whose custom menu items will be featured throughout the restaurant.
