History Professor Delivers Speech at a Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday

HPU’s National Endowment for the Humanities-supported Endowed Chair in World History, Marc Jason Gilbert, Ph.D., was an invited speaker at the 13th annual celebration of the “Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and the International Day of Non-violence” held at Kapiolani Park on October 2. Also attending the event were Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, and Matt Lopresti, Ph.D., who presented a certificate of appreciation from the State of Hawai‘i’s House of Representatives.

Gilbert addressed Gandhi’s views on the environment and sustainable living. Gilbert is a member of the Board of the Gandhi International Institute for Peace based in Honolulu, which is the chief sponsor of this annual event.
