The School of Social Work is pleased and excited to launch our new Military and Veteran Affairs Focus for the Master of Social Work degree at Hawaii Pacific University. Commencing Fall 2018, this concentration will address the needs of active military service personnel, veterans, military spouses and their families and look at some of the key issues impacting this population including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), homelessness, relocation, financial difficulties and civilian reintegration. HPU has a long-associated history with Military and Veteran Services and in 2015, was recognized by the Military Times rankings as one of the Best for Vets universities in the country. It presently is the only Hawai’i university on the list. Military and Veterans concentration students will take three specialized courses plus do two field placements to meet requirements. Depending on the number of students, military and veteran placements maybe limited. In this case we endeavor to match each student with community agencies that serve this population including those that provide adult mental health, neurotrauma, and family support services. Upon graduation students will receive a formal certificate of completion recognizing their Military and Veterans concentration along with their MSW diplomas.
