Welcoming Don Takaki to the HPU Board of Trustees

Aloha HPU ‘Ohana,

On behalf of the University, I am pleased to share with you the news of a recent addition to our Board of Trustees, Donald Takaki.

Mr. Takaki brings a wide range of experience in business management, real estate, and event and convention services to Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Serving as Chairman and CEO of HawkTree International, Inc. and Chairman and CEO of Island Movers, Inc., Mr. Takaki is a strong leader and committed to seeing our community thrive.

In 2017, the Hiroshima Universities Baseball League, the Prefecture of Hiroshima, and the Kyushu Universities Baseball League recognized Mr. Takaki for his leadership in international sports exchanges and education. Through his role as President and General Manager of the non-profit organization Pacific Region Baseball, Inc., Mr. Takaki encourages cross-cultural learning through bringing student athletes to and from Hawaiʻi and Asia.

Mr. Takaki served on the board of ʻIolani School for 27 years, where he chaired the board’s development committee from 1988 to 2013. A passionate fundraiser, he successfully helped to lead the school’s largest capital campaign, grew the school’s endowment, and increased annual giving. Mr. Takaki’s commitment to our community also includes service on the boards of Bank of Hawai‘i, Hawaiian Airlines, Hawaiʻi Hotel and Lodging Association, Chamber of Commerce Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Korean Chamber of Commerce, and Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi. He was Chairman of the Hawaiʻi Convention Center Authority and the Hawaiʻi Visitors and Convention Bureau.

Mr. Takaki is a proud graduate of Maui High School, and in 2007, he was recognized as a Distinguished Public School Graduate by the Public Schools of Hawaiʻi Foundation.

Please join me in warmly welcoming Mr. Takaki to the HPU ʻOhana!

With Aloha,

John Y. Gotanda
