Hawai‘i Pacific University to Celebrate Spring 2018 Commencement

HONOLULU – Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) is proud to announce that its Spring 2018 Commencement exercises will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena.

“The commencement ceremony is the culmination of years of hard work for our students. It’s exciting to be part of that celebration along with their family and friends who have been instrumental to their success,” said President John Gotanda. “Our Spring 2018 graduates are an engaged and diverse group of individuals, who are well prepared to enter the global workplace market-ready.”

During the ceremony, graduating students will hear from Mr. Tomio Taki, international businessman and entrepreneur who began his career as President of Takihyo Co., Inc., at age 26. Under Taki’s leadership, he transformed his family’s company by introducing Western fashion. He established a U.S. company, Takihyo Inc., in 1974, which became a partner and eventually sole owner of Anne Klein & Company, appointing Donna Karan as Chief Designer of the company. In 1984, Karan started her own company and Taki formed a partnership with her and The Donna Karan Company, which went public in 1996.

Guests may enter with their admission tickets starting at 4:00 p.m. for the 5:00 p.m. ceremony. There are 10 seating tickets per graduating student, and everyone, including children, will need a ticket for entry into the arena. Following the graduate recessional will be a meet-and-greet event for graduates and guests at the Exhibition Hall located next door.
