English Professor Receives Literature Award

Associate Professor of English Tyler McMahon was named the 2018 Elliot Cades Award for Literature winner in the established artist category. The award is administered by the Hawai‘i Literary Arts Council, and it will be presented to McMahon on May 5 at the Hawai‘i Book and Music Festival being held at the Frank F. Fasi Civic Grounds/Honolulu Hale; McMahon will also do readings from his works at noon and 4 p.m.   

McMahon is the author of three novels, “Dream of Another America,” winner of the 2016 Gival Press Noval Award, “Kilometer 99,” winner of the 2015 Maria Thomas Fiction Award, and “How the Mistakes Were Made.” In addition to teaching English at HPU, he is the organizer of the annual Ko‘olau Writers Workshop and the editor of Hawai‘i Pacific Review, HPU’s online literary journal.
