Hawai’i Pacific University’s (HPU) Mass Communication student, Katrina Hicks, was a representative of HPU at the AAF Mosaic Career Fair and Conference on February 23, 2018 at Leo Burnett Group in Chicago. Hicks is the President of Akamai Advertising Club, and attended the event as an ambassador of HPU.

According to American Advertising Federation (AAF), the Mosaic Career Fair and Conference gives college students the opportunity to learn about internships and career opportunities from recruiters representing some of the nation’s top advertising, marketing, and communication companies. Recruiters are given the chance to network with students from the AAF’s 200+ college chapters.

“I was privileged to have the chance to attend an event on the mainland, where there are diverse opportunities from what is available in Hawaii,” reflects Hicks about her experience.

Students from many universities and AAF chapters were present at the event. Students were able to listen to several talks from various Leo Burnett team members, including Andrew Swinand, the CEO of Leo Burnett. Following the presentation and a mini-breakout session where students brainstormed campaign ideas for a local brand, students had the opportunity to network with several local and national agencies at the career fair portion of the event. Attending recruiters included Leo Burnett, FCB, Ogilvy, RPA, and McCann.

The AAF offers various programs around the country that have changed lives and impacted careers for the past 20 years.

“AAF has many wonderful programs, and have provided me with internships and industry immersion opportunities,” Hicks said. “I am very grateful for all that they do and highly recommend future students to take advantage of their many programs and conferences.”
