Hawai‘i Pacific University to Celebrate Fall 2017 Commencement

HONOLULU, HAWAII – Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) is proud to announce that its Fall 2017 Commencement exercises will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena.

“At Hawai’i Pacific University, we pride ourselves in in the first-hand experiences that are unique to each student’s personal ambitions,” said Provost Matthew Liao-Troth.  “I’m excited to celebrate in the accomplishments of our fall 2017 graduates and to be part of the beginning of the next chapter of their lives.”

During the ceremony, graduating students will hear from Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Denise M. Jelinski-Hall, who has the distinction of having achieved the highest position ever held by an enlisted woman in the history of the United States Armed Forces.

Following service on the mainland, Chief Master Sergeant Jelinski-Hall moved to Hawai’I in 1990 and joined the 297th Air Traffic Control Flight, Barbers Point. In 2006, she was selected as the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Hawaii Air National Guard. Shortly thereafter the Adjutant General of Hawai’i selected her to serve as the State Senior Enlisted Leader for the Hawaii National Guard (Army and Air). She held both positions simultaneously until she assumed the position of the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau in February 2010. Chief Master Sergeant Jelinski-Hall is also the author of the book, From the Prairie to the Pentagon.
