Faculty Profile: Han Nee Chong

Han Nee Chong, Ed.D., Instructional Design and Technology Specialist and adjunct faculty member is changing the way students engage with their curriculum through individualized learning. Chong is constantly evolving her teaching methods to better communicate and engage with students.

She has customized an online technical writing class to be modeled after the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Each week students receive quests (assignments), gain experience points by completing assignments and participating in discussion threads, and are put in Safe Havens (collaborative groups).

It was this innovation that led to her recognition by Blackboard Inc., a virtual classroom platform that is used in online and on-campus classrooms to house course curriculum, discussion boards, announcements, and an array of other support tools. Chong was awarded the 2017 Catalyst Award, in the “Exemplary Course” category, which recognizes faculty and course designers who develop exciting and innovative courses that represent the very best in technology and learning.
