About Tamkang University:  
Tamkang University was first established in 1950 as small two year Junior college for English. Today it has expanded its campus with Tamsui, Tapiei Lanvang, and Cyber campus. In addition the university has over two thousand faculty and staff members working to meet the needs of over twenty seven thousands students. The campus offers unique an array of facilities and services that caterer to students such as libraries, update computer centers, and advance science facilities to name a few.  TKU Chueh-sheng Memorial Library is the most modern library that meets the needs for student with over two thousand seats, fourteen hundred computers stations for your laptops, and many private study rooms. Which makes it an ideal place to study or do research. The Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center promotes music appreciation for the students and community with there art exhibits and live musical performance. TKU is a university that Taiwanese culture and diversity are welcome so students are encouraged to apply.

* Fall Semester is not available due to conflicts with our academic calendar. You may only choose between attending Spring Semester or Full Year at this university.

* Please remember HPU Study Abroad Application Deadline is Mid-March for Fall and Mid-October for Spring. 

Admission Requirements:

  • Must have attended HPU for one semester.
  • Must intend to graduate from HPU.
  • Must have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have completed one Chinese language course with a B average.
Application Procedure:
  • Complete the Student Exchange Program data sheet.
  • Schedule and attend a formal interview with Melissa Matsubara
  • Be prepared to discuss your motives for studying abroad and your degree plan.
  • Select an exchange partner university that has courses which can be used for your intended HPU degree.
  • Fill out the exchange university’s admissions application
  • Obtain recommendation letters to be turned in with your application. (This depends on the individual university’s application requirements)
  • Passport photos (Amount and size depend upon each university)
  • Sign a Course Request Approval (CRA) to verify your foreign coursework and HPU equivalents.

Health Insurance:  Health Insurance is mandatory for all study abroad students.  HPU recommends health insurance from Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) for students study abroad. There is more information medical coverage and rates of CISI health insurance at

Housing Accommodations:  TKU offers dorms on campus at Sung-Tao Hall and Chi-Chang Hall on campus for female students. Male students can use Tamkang Dormitory off campus, there are apartment complex off campus. Just contact the Office of International Exchange and International Education (OIEIE) at TKU website for more information on housing.

Visa Information:  Students entering Taiwan have a 60 day visitor  visa. Students need to contact the  Bureau of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get a resident visa before there visitor visa expire.
