About the University of Hertfordshire
University of Hertfordshire is located only a half an hour away from London. Hertfordshire is close to the major railroads as well as the three international airports, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted. The university has two campuses, Hatifield and St. Albans of Law. Hatifield campus is UH’s main campus and where most of their classes are taught. Hatifield also is where the dorms and sports faculties are located. UH is a large university with a student body of over twenty two- thousand students and offers over five hundred bachelor degrees. * Please remember HPU Study Abroad Application Deadline is Mid-March for Fall and Mid-October for Spring. 

Admission Requirements:

  • Must have attended HPU for one semester
  • Must intend to graduate from HPU
  • Must have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be fluent in English

Application Procedure:

  • Complete the Student Exchange Program data sheet.
  • Schedule and attend a formal interview with Melissa Matsubara
  • Be prepared to discuss your motives for studying abroad and your degree plan.
  • Select an exchange partner university that has courses which can be used for your intended HPU degree.
  • Fill out the exchange university’s admissions application
  • Obtain recommendation letters to be turned in with your application. (This depends on the individual university’s application requirements)
  • Passport photos (Amount and size depend upon each university)
  • Sign a Credit Request Approval (CRA) to verify your foreign coursework and HPU equivalents.

Health Insurance:  Health Insurance is mandatory for all study abroad students. You may check with your current provider to see if they cover a study abroad, or you may choose an additional provider to cover while overseas. Please consult our Health Insurance page found in our Resources section for more information.

Housing Accommodations:  Students can find accommodation at UH.  The university has two campus dorms, Havilland and Lane. Havilland has single room flats that are furnished. Lane campus has flats that are single rooms and shared bathroom and kitchen for each hall. Students need to make housing arrangements with UH. Students can find information about UH housing accommodation applications and rent on the universities website.

Scholarship Opportunity: As UH is a member of BUTEX, students coming to UH will be eligible to apply for the BUTEX International Scholarship Programme 2014. The deadline to apply for these scholarships is 16th June 2014. For more information please refer to the text below from BUTEX:

The Scholarship is open to all international undergraduate students whose period of study abroad is not funded by an ERASMUS grant.  To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place at a UK university or college which is BUTEX-affiliated.  If you are not sure whether your host institution is BUTEX-affiliated, please see our website ( This round of applications is for students who have a study abroad placement commencing in either September 2014 or January 2015.  Your place must be for a minimum of one semester. The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.
