HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University was recently awarded the designation of a Top School in the 2015 Military Advanced Education (MAE) Guide to Colleges & Universities. The guide measures best practices in military and veteran education and was released in the December issue of MAE. This is the seventh year running that MAE has honored HPU with the distinction.

“Our faculty and staff have a passion for helping military and veteran students achieve their goals,” said HPU Military Campus Programs Interim Dean Justin W. Vance, Ed.D. “Our reward is their graduation and success as alumni. This is why we are No. 1 in Hawai‘i and recognized year after year by Military Advanced Education and other ranking organizations as a top tier program nationally.”

MAE’s Guide presents results of a questionnaire of the military-supportive policies enacted at more than 600 institutions including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year, and two-year colleges. This year, institutes were evaluated on their military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services. The guide is online at

“We believe the Guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising service members about their educational opportunities,” said Kelly Fodel, MAE’s editor. “We used strict criteria to individually evaluate the submissions of respondents, and we had a record number of schools participating this year.”

The MAE “Top School” designation is the latest recognition for HPU’s longtime outreach to the military. In November, the university was ranked 33rd in the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 list, and was the only Hawai‘i-based school included. In September, HPU was named a 2015 Military Friendly School by Victory Media.
