HPU Names Director of Strategic Communications

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University has named longtime communications professional Richard Rapoza as its Director of Strategic Communications. Rapoza will work closely with university leadership and be responsible for building, implementing and managing HPU’s comprehensive communication outreach strategies.

“We are pleased to have Richard join our team at HPU,” said HPU President Geoffrey Bannister, Ph.D. “We will count on Richard’s deep communications and media expertise, as the university heads toward its 50th anniversary next year, highlighted by the revitalization of Aloha Tower Marketplace.”

Rapoza has more than 25 years of experience as a communications professional. He has worked in public, private, political, and non-profit sectors, most recently as the Communications Director for U.S. Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa.

Previously, Rapoza was the Director of Communications for the Hawai‘i State Senate and an award-winning writer, producer and director for Kamehameha Schools. Born and raised in Hawai‘i, Rapoza is a graduate of Pearl City High School and the University of Hawai‘i, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Rapoza begins his new position on Dec. 1.
