HONOLULU — Computer game designer and entrepreneur Henk Rogers will deliver keynote remarks at Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Winter Commencement, set for Wednesday, Dec. 17, 5 p.m., at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.

Rogers is chairman of Blue Planet Software, the sole agent for the Tetris franchise, and founder of both Blue Startups, Hawai‘i’s first venture accelerator, and also Blue Planet Foundation, a nonprofit clean energy advocate.

Rogers, who was born in Amsterdam, manages the worldwide rights for the Tetris brand. Thirty years after its launch, Tetris continues to be one of the world’s most recognizable and top-selling games.

Rogers’ work with Blue Startups will help small teams of budding entrepreneurs incubate into viable businesses, ready for angel and venture capital funding.

Over the last decade, he became determined to end the use of carbon-based fuel on the planet, starting with fossil fuels in Hawai‘i, his adopted home. Driven by the vision of a world of abundant, renewable energy that sustains all life on earth, Blue Planet Foundation has become the frontline organization in the fight for indigenous, renewable energy in Hawai‘i.

At HPU’s 83rd commencement, Rogers will address students and audiences, both in the arena and around the world viewing via live video stream. The university will confer associate, baccalaureate and master degrees to more than 500 graduates in the Winter 2014 class.

Many of the students are global citizens, hailing from dozens of countries from around the world and are highly educated, profession-ready graduates, in disciplines including nursing, computer science, sustainability, environmental studies, communication and marine science.
