HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University, known for one the state’s largest MBA programs, also boasts one of the strongest online MBA programs in the U.S., according to a recent survey of international business programs.

TheBestSchools.org — a leading resource for campus and online education — ranked HPU among the 25 Best Online MBA in International Business Degree Programs. HPU was ranked No. 18 and was the only Hawai‘i-based school on the list.

“To have our program recognized as No. 18 is a testament to our faculty, students and alumni, as well as to the honor we have of being embedded in Hawai‘i and the heart of the business community,” said HPU College of Business Dean Deborah Crown, Ph.D. “HPU’s unique online graduate programs make it accessible for a diverse population to obtain their degrees and accomplish their career goals, especially for working professionals.”

TheBestSchools.org based its ratings on criteria including academic excellence, range of available classes, faculty strength, rankings and reputation. HPU’s MBA in International Business is among several graduate programs offered by the college that allow students to go further in education.

“For working professionals, the value of a graduate education cannot be underestimated," Crown said. “There's a substantial body of research evaluating the role an MBA plays in career advancement and the ability to change or expand professional opportunities.”

She cited a recent Corporate Recruiters Survey, which shows a marked increase in organizations’ plans to hire MBAs, from 50 percent in 2009 to 80 percent in 2014. A quality education could lead to better job prospects and in the long term, greater salary potential, Crown observed.

Recently, HPU was also recently recognized as the highest ranked school in Hawai‘i — and nationally, in the upper half — for return on investment based on costs of attending, and average income after graduation, by salary tracker PayScale. HPU is ranked No. 1 in Hawai‘i on PayScale’s 2014-2015 College Salary Report.

“We are very proud of how successful our graduates are in Hawai‘i and around the world,” said HPU Provost Matthew Liao-Troth, Ph.D. “The latest PayScale ranking is indicative about how our students, grounded in a strong liberal arts education, go further.”

The PayScale ranking and recognition as a top MBA program, reinforce HPU’s unique role in educating profession-ready global leaders. HPU’s online MBA program has a term beginning on Oct. 20. For information, call (808) 544-1402.
