Art lecture by Japan’s Princess Akiko cancelled

HONOLULU – An art lecture that was to be presented by Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Hawaiʻi Pacific University, has been cancelled.

According to the Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu, “The Imperial Household Agency announced yesterday (December 6th, Japan Time) that Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa momentarily fainted and was admitted to a hospital as a precaution. The Agency also announced that her scheduled visit to Hawaii has been cancelled.”

Princess Akiko is a recognized art historian as well as a member of Japan’s royal family, and was to speak on “Constructing the History of Japanese Art in the British Museum.”
