HPU Celebrates 28th Annual Intercultural Day

April 17, 2012

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University will celebrate its 28th annual Intercultural Day on Friday, April 20, beginning 10 a.m. on Upper Fort Street Mall. Free and open to the public, the event spotlights HPU students’ ethnic and cultural diversity through a parade, exhibits and lively stage performances.

The parade begins at 11:30 a.m and showcases students dressed in traditional country attire as they carry banners and flags representing their home countries through downtown Honolulu.

Cultural performances by various student groups begin at 1 p.m., with traditional dances and music from around the world.  Exhibit booths throughout the day will entertain and educate Fort Street Mall patrons of the diversity of HPU’s student body.

Over the years, HPU has become a melting pot by attracting students from around the globe. Established in 1984, Intercultural Day creates a venue for these students to share their traditions and customs. For more information, contact the HPU International Center at (808) 356-5299.
