APEC: Dr. Juarez met dignitaries during conference

Dr. Carlos Juarez, Chairman of HPU’s Department of Social Sciences and Honorary Consul of Peru, meets with Rafael Roncagliolo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, between APEC meetings at the Trump International Hotel in Waikiki Nov. 12. Later, Juarez served as the translator for Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and met several heads of state, including President Barack Obama, at the APEC Leaders Dinner. HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University students, faculty and staff participated in various aspects of the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference.

Najib Razak at the Halekulani Nov. 13. The prime minister visited Hawai‘i as part
of APEC.

APEC: Dr. LoPresti meets prime minister

Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak shakes hands with Dr. Matthew LoPresti,
chairman of HPU’s Asian Studies Program Nov. 13. Honorary Consul of Malaysia
and former Hawai‘i Gov. John Waihee accompanied the prime minister at the dinner.
LoPresti helped arrange for several HPU students from Malaysia to attend the event.
