HPU Cheerleaders Win Ninth Consecutive National Championship

Hawai‘i Pacific University’s large and small co-ed cheer teams took first place in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Championships in Daytona, Fla. on Friday, April 8.

The HPU Large Co-Ed Cheer Team won its ninth straight national title (2003-2011). The HPU Small Co-Ed Cheer Team won its fifth national title (2005-2008, 2011).

The seven-time national championship dance team placed third in the Dance Open II category (first time competing in this category) and third in the Hip Hop category (which they won in 2010).

HPU had two teams compete in the group stunt division. One team placed first, while the other placed fourth. HPU also placed first in the open stunt division. Sharky the Sea Warrior won ninth place in the Mascot category, a competition featuring mascots from 15 other schools. 

The NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship hosts cheer and dance teams from all over the nation. The competition is the largest college cheer and dance championship in the world.

Hawai‘i Pacific University is the state’s largest private university with more than 8,500 students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. HPU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Council on Social Work Education, and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
