Psychology Honor Society: Psi Chi

This national honor society recognizes excellence in scholarship and the advancement of psychology. Membership is limited to the top 35 percent of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. Members of Psi Chi are also extended special membership offers into the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS.

Eligible candidates for membership in the HPU Chapter of Psi Chi must:

  • Intend to major or minor in Psychology at HPU.
  • Be at least a second semester sophomore (45+ credits completed).
  • Have completed a minimum of nine (9) credits in psychology courses at HPU.
  • Have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.45.
  • Have a minimum HPA of 3.45 for psychology courses taken at all institutions.

The lifetime membership fee of $60 (which includes an honors medallion, lapel pin, a membership certificate, and online access to member materials) is to be paid upon acceptance.

Model Chapter Award CertificateThe HPU Chapter of Psi Chi has been awarded "Model  Chapter" status for the third year in a row (we are the only chapter in the state of Hawaii to have won this distinction even once).

The HPU Chapter was awarded a $1000 grant for the 2nd year in a row from the External Affairs Committee of the Psi Chi National Council to help offset the costs of the 4th Annual HPU Psychology Program Conference and Awards Dinner Banquet, which was held in April, 2010.

The HPU Chapter has received the 2008-2009 Psi Chi Western Regional Chapter Award and chapter advisor, Dr. Brian Metcalf, has received the 2008-2009 Western Regional Faculty Advisor of the Year Award!
