MA COM student Wins Journalism Award!

Kalamalama Staff member Mariah Mellor won first place in the Student Journalism in Any Media category at the Society of Professional Journalism Awards awards dinner Friday night at the Japanese Cultural Center.

Mellor, a Kalamalama writer and editor, took first place for her piece "Concierge to the Rescue," which she wrote as an SPJ intern at Hawaii Business magazine.

Mellor is a graduate student in the HPU MA Com program.

"We're all very proud of Mariah," said faculty editor John Windrow. "We have a strong Journalism Program at HPU because we have such superior students. It's great to be recognized by a national professional organization like SPJ that does so much to promote excellence in Journalism and Public Relations."
