Debate Scholarships & Information


This Hawaii Pacific University tuition waiver scholarship is awarded to entering high school graduates or entering transfer students who are interested in participating with the HPU debate program. Applicants should exhibit superior speech and or debate ability and can demonstrate a record of past achievements that indicate a strong potential for intercollegiate debate success. Scholarship students will participate in Debate Society events such as the Mixed Plate Debates, the Pan Pacific Championship, the Island Debate invitational and scrimmages with local teams. Students will also be obligated to write research briefs and be an advocate for debate in the HPU community.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements: A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 supported by a current official transcript and intent to pursue one of the degrees offered by the HPU College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Scholarship Period: Renewable for up to three (3) years

Scholarship Amount: $5,000 each academic year


Hawaii Pacific University offers scholarships to graduate students who have demonstrated a past record of debate achievement and success and who wish to continue debating and serve as an assistant coach to the Sea Warrior Debate Society. Assistant coaching duities may consist of writing research briefs, supervising debate practices, and logistical coordination of Debate Society events such as the Mixed Plate Debates, The Pan Pacific Championship and the Island Debate Invitational.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

· Incoming undergraduate or graduate students. Graduate students must be an applicant to the Master of Arts in Communication program.

· Submit application, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation
