Edith Vargas was born and raised in California, fluent in English and Spanish. She came to Hawaii Pacific University to further pursue a career as a system analyst. “HPU had the program I was interested in and being able to live in Hawaii was just an added bonus. I love being here!”
Edith has been actively involved with the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii (St. Andrew’s Cathedral) volunteering to assist with software and hardware problems. “I enjoy the flexibility of being able to work while attending classes, and my MSIS professors apply real-life examples in class. I thoroughly enjoy learning about software engineering and the aspects of project management. Dr. Cathrine Linnes has made me enjoy each of her courses.”

Hawai‘i Pacific University offers the Flex MSIS format particularly designed for part-time students or busy working professionals who are seeking a program that combines exceptional academic content with convenience and flexibility.
The Flex MSIS provides students with the opportunity to craft an individualized schedule that best suits their time management and professional needs. A college advisor will work closely with each student to design an optimal schedule from: (1) fall, spring, and summer terms; four accelerated military campus terms*, (3) a year-round offering of online classes; and (4) specialized directed studies with program professors.

The Flex MSIS contains the same academic content as the full-time format, but provides more flexibility for students with challenging work or professional schedules. The program allows you to switch between full and part-time study, attend evening, day or weekend classes, and arrange a convenient payment plan. While many students complete the program in three years, the university provides you up to seven years to complete the MSIS program.
*The military campus option requires students to have access to military bases.
